Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between mainstream, extended, and sustaining support?

They are the three phases in Sitecore's Product Support Lifecycle (KB0641167), counted from a version's general availability date: 3, 6 and 8 years. Mainstream includes everything, from security updates to hotfixes and compatibility fixes. Extended keeps documentation and upgrade assistance, while security fixes and production incident help are by arrangement with your Sitecore account representative under the model in effect since 1 June 2026. Sustaining keeps documentation and upgrade assistance only.

What happens after a Sitecore version's support ends?

After the Sustaining end date a version is outside every phase of Sitecore's lifecycle policy. KB0641167 also states that Sitecore's upgrade assistance applies only when the version you upgrade from is in Mainstream, Extended or Sustaining support and the version you upgrade to is in Mainstream support.

What changed in Sitecore support in June 2026?

Sitecore introduced an updated support model for customers on Extended and Sustaining support, in operation from 1 June 2026.
